As I check weather pics every day, it would be easier if there would be favorite buttons on the main screen instead of navigating to the Map History.

Did you try using the Map History in the Weather Watcher system tray menu?

Yes I have. I usually open WW to see current conditions and then open different maps. It would just save some extra clicks to have maybe 5 buttons directly on the main screen. It could even be a combo list.
