I think I know the answer, but I'd like to hear it from someone who knows for sure.
I had a station that was about 3-4 miles away for a time, but it just disappeared one day. I'm assuming these are just ordinary folks with a weather station in their yard, etc. who can put up a station, and take it down as they like. Is that correct?
And also, I assume that people with these PW stations can choose whether or not they will or will not be reporting their data. Is that correct?

Most of the PWS's are not owned by WeatherBug or Weather Underground. I'm sure most of the weather stations have good up time, but there's always the chance a station is down for repair, the power/Internet goes out, the owner moves, etc.
Did you look for that station at WeatherBug.com/WeatherUnderground.com to see if it appears there?

No. I'll go and see what I can find out. Thank you.
